Some of the Award categories you are automatically entered into. These include Growth Store of the Year, Fresh Store of the Year and Rookie of the Year (if you are in your first year of owning a Four Square from 1 April 2020).
For other Awards like the Customer Promise Awards, Member of the Year and Employer of the Year Award you can enter yourself or others by filling out the online award entry form.
The Support Centre Legend of the Year Award is one where Four Square members nominate people from the Support Centre.
All nominations and entries must be in by 28 February 2021. Check out The Awards page to find the relevant form for each Award category.
We know getting a boot full of fancy prizes isn’t what smokes your tyres but you could win some pretty cool stuff in recognition of your achievement. Prizes range from pieces of unique Kiwi art, to a generous Prezzy Cards, store marketing… and of course, all our winners take home a pretty cool trophy. It all depends on the Award you win – some of the Awards are harder than others so the prize is bigger.
The Charlies full judging panel will be announced as we progress along, but it’s an awesome group of people that we’ve been able to bring together. We’re keeping judging external to our Four Square team so things are totally fair and transparent. We’re stoked to be able to announce our first two judges:
Dean Waddell
Foodies Board Chair and Owner of PAK’nSAVE Tauranga
Chris Quin
Foodies CEO
Joining Dean and Chris on the panel will also be:
An internal retail expert
To be announced soon but they’re gooood
An external Kiwi entrepreneur
To be announced soon but they’re a smart foodie retailer who we rate very highly
For some of our Award categories we will be bringing in specialist judges including:
Wendy Hammonds
Foodies GM People & Capability
Lindsay Rowles
Foodies GM Membership & Property
Michal Haines
Foodies Head of Fresh
An external professional food connoisseur
To be announced soon but you’ll know who they are and have likely tried their creations
We will announce the rest of our judging panel and specialist judges in the coming months but we’re excited to have them onboard!
How are you judging them?
Each of the nine Awards is different and so each Award has its own set criteria, which you can check out here.
Every Award finalist will need to meet our Four Square Operational Standards to be in the running to win. You can check these out on our FAQ page.
Due to COVID-19 we’re running the FY21 Charlies Awards over a shorter timeline – from 1 June 2020 – 28 February 2021. And we’ll be announcing the winners at our Four Square Conference in April 2021. More details on our Conference are coming soon.
Next year we’ll run The Charlies for the full 12 months of our financial year.
Go for it! You can enter or nominate others for as many Award categories as you like.
The Charlies has been specifically designed for our Four Square team in line with our Four Square Customer Promises and key strategic initiatives. We very much remain a key part of our Annual Co-op Awards but The Charlies will enable us to recognise more specific awesomeness in Four Square, and give us the opportunity to celebrate together.
Your team live and breathe our Customer Promises. You’ve done the team workshop and your commitments take pride of place back of house.
Customers can get all their Fresh Food needs in your store. You have an offer in all five fresh categories (Produce, Butchery, Bakery, Deli and Seafood).
Our Buying Transformation is alive and kicking in your store. Category planograms and mandatory range have been implemented.
Your customers know they get a fair deal when they shop with you. Your store honours all advertised promotions week in week out.
You provide a safe workplace for your team. Ideally you have scored a green in your H&S audit, minimum is an amber and you have actioned anything that needed to be fixed.
As Sir Francis Bacon wrote in the 17th century, “cleanliness is next to godliness”. You have a demonstrable cleaning cycle for chillers, checkouts, floors, shelving, windows etc.
You own your financial performance and have submitted your last full year results to the Foodies Finance team
You live up to our AON Hewitt Best employer award and run a fully compliant payroll and have up to date employment agreements for your whole team
You’re a committed Co-op member and have signed the latest/current franchise agreement
Everyday Essentials means customers can get their favourite brands at a fair price when and where they need them, and there’s something in store for every time of day.
Fresh Faves means customers can rely on Four Square for all the fresh essentials they need, as well as easy food-to-go meal solutions
Local Service means the store is easy to shop, so our customers can get in and out quickly, and our team is personal and friendly all the time
